Photosynthetic bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris GJ‐22 induces systemic resistance against viruses
Photosynthetic bacteria (PSB) have been extensively used in agriculture to promote plant growth and to improve crop quality. Their potential application in plant disease management, however, is largely overlooked. In this study, the PSB strain Rhodopseudomonas palustris GJ-22 was investigated for its ability to induce resistance against a plant virus while promoting plant growth. In the field, ...

The details of this condensation and the mechanisms involved were not elucidated until very recently. In the last few months, several laboratories have independently reported their preliminary findings demonstrating the enzymatic synthesis of 6aminolevulinic acid. We have found that particle-free extracts of Rhodopseudomonas spheroides and Rhodosp&%llum rubrum cells grown anaerobically in the l...

Biosynthesis of alpha-aminoketones and the metabolism of aminoacetone.
In 1956 Mauzerall and Granick (1) published a method for the calorimetric determination of a-aminoketones that depended on coupling of an a-aminoketone with acetylacetone to form a pyrrole with a free Q! position. The Ehrlich reagent, p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde in acid, reacted at the CY position of this pyrrole to form a highly colored compound. This method made possible the determination of ...
